Are people who are allergic to dogs really not allergic to poodles?

It depends on the person, really. Poodles tend to be less allergenic than other dog breeds. Take a sensitivity test to see if you would be allergic to a poodle. This is available from a breeder. Also, if you adopt from a shelter you can return the dog if you are allergic.

This is tricky! It all depends on the person. Although poodles shed FAR less than other dogs, it is not the fur that one is allergic to it is the skin. Flakes of skin constantly fall off people and pets called dander, this is the allergen. To be sure have an allergy test with the specific dog.

Most individuals who are allergic to dogs are actually allergic to the skin cells and hair the dogs shed. Poodles are considered hypo-allergenic because they shed very little and do not produce as many body oils as other dogs. You can still be allergic to poodles though.

Well, nobody's really allergic to dogs. They're just allergic to the dander, most likely. Poodles don't shed, so they don't produce dander, so people term them hypoallergenic. I don't like poodles, but I adopted a poodle hybrid, who doesn't shed, and is also "hypoallergenic".

Yes, this is true. The reason for this is because poodles have hair, like a person, not fur. I learned this from my sister who grooms dogs for a living. According to friends I have with dog allergies, poodles do not irritate them.

Therare certain fur on some dogs that doewn'tattract allergens or maybe as many. The fur has been created because of a deliberate hybrid created. Too the certain dogs may not get into areas as common as other breed or hold on to other allergens as much or stay cleaner.
